BETTER THAN THE FIRST

Yep, I enjoyed Child's Play 2 better than the original Child's Play. Both were big parts of my childhood and it was the original that lead to many sleepless night for a young me.

But why do I think part 2 is better than part 1? A few reasons: For starters, everything is already explained. In the original, we don't get into the blood and gore for at least thirty minutes, as we meet Andy Barclay, his mother, learn how Charles Lee Ray got transformed into a doll and build a little suspense before he goes full ape shit on the unsuspecting humans. In part 2, we already know Andy, we already know how he became a doll and the script does a good job of being succinct with how his charred remains get recreated. Part 2 is really just a continuation of the first movie and it's really great, with some old school horror blood & guts.

Not to mention the AMAZING climax at the toy factory, which has got to be one of the all time great horror finales in all of horror. No question - I prefer Child's Play 2 to the original.

LAST CHOICE

When compiling these selections, it actually came down between this and the original Child's Play for the fifteenth spot and I ultimately went with this. This particular viewing was only the second time I'd seen Up in the Air and I liked it much better this go around. Film snobs tend to overlook Clooney as a quality actor and Farmiga is also fine onscreen. Happy to invite this one into my fold.

I LOVE AN UNDERDOG STORY...

I do, truly love a good underdog story and this one also had the backdrop of an MMA tournament, Now, I don't watch MMA personally, but I do watch wrestling and with the exception of being fake, it's similar - so I could easily get into this. Also, I think this was my first Tom Hardy movie and I dug him. Need to see more of that guy...

WONDERFUL DOC

Let's just put it this way: I really could not possibly care less about 1) race cars or cars in general 2) race car drivers or 3) car racing - yet this doc made me, for it's length, care about nothing else. This one completely swept me away into the world of Ayrton Senna and when it ended, I had a tear in my eye. Great stuff!

COULDN'T FORGET THIS ONE

This is an old time favorite of mine (am I really referring to 2004 as "old time") which I saw when it was first released. Definitely one of the most unique films I've ever seen and probably a Top 5 selection if we're you're talking about the greatest love stories of all-time. I love Jim Carrey too, always have and hopefully, eventually, I can find a spot for one of his comedies, because I'm fan. Kate Winslet is like you've never seen her and then you've got Tom Wilkinson and Mark Ruffalo to boot.

SINS OF OMISSION: The Christmas Batch

The whole interface of Blogger has changed since I last typed words on this blog. I hate change, so I'm not a fan - but I guess it'll do.

Hello, all. I don't need to take up much of your time here. It's time yet again for a new batch of SIN! For the newcomers, let's go over exactly what's happening here...

Basically, every time I watch 100 films (starting in January 2015), I add a new batch of films to my personal 1,000 list, which currently stands at 344 films. My rules are all self imposed and I follow them strictly. The most important rule is that I have to TRY MY BEST to include at least ten films for every 100 that I watch, but can choose no more than 15. If there happens to be a sixteenth or even a seventeenth film worthy of inclusion, there is nothing in my rules stating that it can't simply be rewatched the next 100 and reconsidered for inclusion.

In the last six months, the field was certainly a rough one. I narrowed down the original 100 to a very strong 24 candidates and then did the unenviable task of shaving off another nine.

Over the next couple of weeks, I'll unveil my fifteen new choices here on the blog. More than likely, you'll see very little writing of my actual thoughts and a lot more of what I did last time: Simply typing out a title and slapping in a few pictures, simply to make it all official. I never did regain that desire to write about film and honestly, the thought of FORCING myself to write is so unappealing that I'd rather not do it.
