Hiatus time again...

I HATE to do this, but I feel like I need to take a much needed break from THE BOOK, for a little while. I know, I know, I'm so close to hitting the 801 watched mark and I very much wanted to do that before I took a break, but I'm in dire need of a rest and I don't want my opinions of the movies to suffer as a result.

The thing is, though, is that I've just been bumped up to full-time at work, which means an extra work day a week, which means a much more tired film watcher/reviewer. I'm sure eventually I'll get used to the extra work load, but add that to the fact that it's also the holidays and that doesn't make it any easier. For the unaware, I work in retail, which, for anyone who has ever worked in retail, you know the holidays can be a total bitch! Not to mention the fact that I've got family functions and stuff like that to plan around (Christmas shopping with my wife, all that good stuff) and by the end of the day, my energy is just about zapped.

I've sort of made it an unofficial rule to watch 100 films every time I come back from hiatus, but guess what - my blog, my rules and I need a breather. I'll be back in probably late January, early February and we'll knock out this 100 easily and keep on truckin' toward the 901 watched mark.

As always, I check the blog daily (or try to), so don't hesitate to leave comments and I'll be sure to reply and approve them (if they're appropriate).

I'll say goodbye but don't you cry, I'll be back again someday!

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to all.

  1. Hi there Andrew..
Nothing to fret about.. and congratulations on getting 'promoted' to full time work.
We should perhaps use the time to catch up on some older posts.
I will certainly be checking to see if anyone else has added something good.. I bet William B will have something interesting to add.
    Enjoy Christmas period...

  2. Have a nice break. I hope you come back recharged.

I'm trying to finish off the last 17 I need to get to 700 before the end of the year, but I've only been able to watch 3 in the last 2 weeks, so I don't think I'm going to make it.

    1. Thanks William. Yeah, not a very good time to watch movies for me either, as I just have too much going on.

  4. And a happy new year to you...

Question.. Are you (as in the USA) getting the BBC modernisations of Sherlock Holmes.. The one called 'Sherlock', with Benedict Cumberpatch / Martin freeman in?
If so, are you (as in you, Andrew) following it?
We get to see the first of series 3 tonight...

    1. Happy New Year to you too Ray...

Umm I've definitely heard the name Benedict Cumberpatch, but I don't follow Sherlock and therefore don't even know if it's available over here. I'm sure it's on Netflix, as most BBC shows seem to be...

We do have a show in the states called Elementary, which is a modern day Sherlock Holmes with Lucy Liu playing Watson. I don't watch it, but I've heard good things...

Also, PS, Brian got resurrected on Family Guy. Wasn't sure if that news had made it's way to you.

    2. Yes, Ray, the new Sherlock with BC and MF are shown here on PBS (which also shows Downton Abbey and almost all other British imports). Season 3 (Series 3 in your parlance, iirc) premieres Jan 19, and I can't wait.
Andrew, the show is excellent and definitely worth your time. Each season only has 3 90 min episodes, so it's not a major time commitment. It is available from Netflix streaming or Blu-Ray.

    3. Perhaps I'll have to check it out. There are about a hundred shows, past and present, that I'd like to check out...

  5. Thanks.. No, the Brian news was.. well, news.. to me.

BTW, your very useful 'recent comments' list isn't working.. at least not for me.

Making that last post was sort of a way to test, as I've not seen anyone add anything since Hiatus started..

    1. With a little exploration, the recent comments thing does seem to be broken. I tried to fix it and it just said that the gadget was broken and could not be used until fixed. I took it down and will keep checking to see if they've fixed it. Sorry about that Ray.

    2. Hello William
(Once again Andrew, please excuse the cross table talk)
Thanks for your comment.. and delighted you watch it and like it. Good waiting 'till the 19th?. We got episode one on New years day, and ep 2 tomorrow, so endure the wait. (Be prepared and expect to watch twice, as early bits make no sense until you have seen the rest)
I'm a great fan.. and this is a comment from someone who dislikes remakes on principle, and it very un computer savvy (they make great use of modern IT stuff don't hey?)
have you made any other comments during the 'Hiatus'? With Andrews 'recent comments' feature broken, I wouldn't know...

  6. Hi Ray,
I wish we had the new episodes already, but I guess I can wait until the 19th. I suppose I could find an illegal copy online somewhere to get it sooner, but it's not really worth the effort when I only need to wait a couple weeks.
I left a few comments on some movies that Andrew reviewed a while back but that I just watched. I know 'Gallipoli' was one. 'Breaking the Waves' was another. I think there was one or two more, but I can't remember for sure.
