1001 Movies are history. I've watched them and spent time with them all, by writing about them. Now...the real challenge begins. I continue watching. I continue rating. I continue building my own list of 1000 films (because who needs that extra 1?)

Sam Fuller season eh?

I've never been able to decide what i thought of Sam Fuller. In several ways I feel I don't like his stiff.. he is sort of the film director version of Ernest Hemmingway .. far too much testosterone.. loud, full of macho swagger.. too much of what is often called 'A man's man'. His 'red baiting / cold war paranoia' films lack subtlety in their red peril messaging ..( we will come to 'Pick up on south street' when we come to it), and a little over fond of action war films for my taste .. but There are several of his films I have seen that I have enjoyed.. not least 'Pick up..'
Looking forward to "Pickup" and "Shock Corridor". Obviously, "The Big Red One" is a war film, so that one could be tough for me.
