NOTE: The review for "Halloween" IS UP and has been pushed down due to this post. If you want to read it, please scroll down. Thank you!
Well Halloween 2010 is in the books and despite some not so favorable ratings, I still had a great time vegging out all day and watching some horror flicks. Here's what's on tap for November, and more specifically this coming week.
HITCHCOCKTOBER FEST! WILL CONCLUDE...I PROMISE
I know, I know...I should've had "Hitchcocktober Fest!" finished in October, but it was quite beyond my control. Here's what's left:
*Psycho (1960) - Keeps flickering off and on between "short wait" and "available now" on Netflix
*The Birds (1963) - see Psycho's note.
*Marnie (1964) - Have it on my desk right now, from Netflix. It WILL BE the next movie I watch.
*Frenzy (1972)
Here's what else I have planned for the upcoming week:
*Toy Story (1995 - John Lasseter) - "Toy Story 3" comes out Tuesday and I want to see it...but first, I might as well rewatch the original for the "1001" book.
*L.A. Confidential (1997 - Curtis Hanson) - My wife will be watching it really soon...I'll be joining her.
*Yankee Doodle Dandy (1942 - Michael Curtiz) - I went on a serious Jimmy Cagney kick last month and bought a bunch of his movies for cheap off of Amazon...this was one of them.
*White Heat (1949 - Raoul Walsh) - See above note.
*There Will Be Blood (2007 - Paul Thomas Anderson) - I REALLY need to watch a movie from the 2000s, as I've only watched two in 2 months. Also, I've been on a big Daniel Day-Lewis kick as of late.
*The Thing (1982 - John Carpenter) - Just decided on this one after watching "Halloween"...I'm super high on Carpenter right now.
*If... (1968 - Lindsay Anderson) - This one's for you Ray
I seriously doubt that I'll be watching all of that stuff this week, but we'll see how much we can get done. My main goal for November is to watch 22 movies, so that I will have 201 watched, 800 to go and thus make my "TOP 40...SO FAR" list. I don't think I'll have any problem doing that.
Check back in a few days and I'll be putting up an "October Recap" post, which will recap all of the movies I watched in October (the ones in and out of the "1001" book) and include revised ratings.

If you haven't seen White Heat already then you're in for a treat. His role in that movie is one of the first true psychopaths in cinema.
ReplyDeleteAs for Psycho and Netflix. You probably do it already, but when I run into one with a wait I put it at the top and then always put movies just below it so that it checks for it everytime. My favorite is when it sits on wait forever, goes unavailable, you get it some other way, then it suddenly becomes available again.
no review of The Haunting?
ReplyDeleteJ.R. - I can't wait to see "White Heat" and will probably fit it in tomorrow (Tuesday 11/2). Yeah "Psycho" and "The Birds" are at the top of my queue and I love how right now "Psycho" says avaialble now, but when it comes time for them to ship it in the morning, it'll be back to a "short wait".
ReplyDeleteRay - I couldn't fit in "The Haunting", as I succumbed to the temptation of sleeping in yesterday. I figured I'd skip "the Haunting" because there are just enough Robert Wise movie for me to do "Robert Wise Week" in the future.
Vintage Erotica Anno 1920 takes the cake. It has been on Unknown since I added it three and a half years ago.
ReplyDeleteDamn, that is bad. I have a huge "Save" queue built up, of stuff that I need for the book, but for some reason or another they don't have them. I've also been noticing a lot more scratched and damaged discs from them as of late, which is really frustrating when I have ten minutes left and I have to take the disc out, clean it and the find my place again.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the name check.. I hope If.. is acceptable to you. It is a 'bit odd' in places.
ReplyDeleteThere seems to be another person using annon tag.. Confusing. That one wasn't me.. Recently, to be clear who is speaking, I have tried to rtemember to sign mine 'Ray' at the bottom. Suggestion to the other 'annon', so MM can tell thye difference, would you mind putting some tag at the bottom? I guess, like me, you are uanble to 'select profile' other than Annon., and get a headline title like everyone else. (If someone will tell me how, I'd love be no longer Annon!)
