THE FINAL ENTRY OF THE SUMMER

Chosen as my concluding entry for two reasons:

1 - It was my biggest and best new discovery of the last 100 films and....

2 - I finally have a definitive favorite Truffaut film.

RATING: 9/10

SILENCIO

I was anxious to check out another Buster Keaton picture to see if I was still captivated by the silent comic. I hadn't seen a Keaton feature since the fall of 2009, when I saw his five BOOK movies. Well, the man's work definitely held up for me, as I really, really enjoyed this one. Very funny, lots of quality gags. I have a feeling most of Keaton's feature filmography will end up as entrants on my list.

RATING: 9/10

SINS OF OMISSION - Entry #43: Husbands and Wives (1992)

MORE WOOD-MAN!

This was kind of a no brainer and honestly, I wouldn't be surprised to see five or six more Woody Allen films on my list. As of today, Woody Allen has the following on my list: Manhattan, Sleeper, Crimes & Misdemeanors, Match Point, Manhattan Murder Mystery, Hannah and Her Sisters and now Husbands and Wives. I love me some Woody Allen, clearly...

RATING: 8/10  It's a classic Woody Allen style film and I love every minute of it. Can't go higher than an '8' though because there are at least a half dozen, better Allen films.

SCREW YOU, I LIKED IT!

Okay, okay...I know what you're thinking: He's lost his mind. Hey, I had a freaking blast with this and if you want some more arguments to back up this selection, let me tell you this - THIS should have had the popularity that Friday the 13th did, as it's a better, more fun movie and even makes more sense within the realm of the movie itself. It's the same formula as Friday the 13th - kid comes back for revenge, picking off his scantily clad victims, one by one. It's a ton of fun, the kills are more gruesome and if nothing else, you'll at least have a little fun making fun of it. One of the better slasher films I've seen, period.

RATING: 7.5/10  Hey, I even like the mask in this one better, as I'll take a jester over a hockey player any day. If anyone's even still reading this blog, I have a feeling I'm going to get crucified for this choice. I'm proud of the choice, however, as I believe it gives my list a little character and honestly, I really enjoyed this - as much of a guilty pleasure as it may be.

WE BURY OUR SINS, WE WASH THEM CLEAN

Nothing great to say here. I actually saw Mystic River in the theater, when it was re-released for the Oscar campaign in 2004. We had actually gone to the theater with the intention of seeing The Passion of the Christ, but when that was sold out, chose Mystic River. Boy, am I glad we did. The Passion... is a fine film, but this is better. Great cast (needless to say because it's been said to death), great story and great, great score. Stills? Stills!

RATING: 9/10  Clint Eastwood's best? Probably, for my money. I will never get sick of this movie and really, it's one of those ones that I'll probably dust off and watch every couple years just because.

DOCUMENTARY OF THE HALF YEAR

Definitely the most memorable doc I've watched in the past half year and really, one of the more memorable films. Quality wise, it's probably low on the totem pole of the new batch, but that's still saying something. The film is directed by Allan King and basically just puts a camera into the home of the Edwards family (man, woman and child) and films their day to day life, as we watch their marriage disintegrate. I love movies where the camera just rolls and the film really makes us feel like an outsider, watching something that we probably have no right to.

It should be noted that the other great doc I watched this past six months was Life Itself, the Roger Ebert doc, but didn't find it quite good enough to invite into the fold. Still...very, very good.

RATING: 7.5/10  Great doc, yet the lowest rated movie of the new batch. Don't let the rating fool ya though, this is definitely a must see film.
